Up to $20,000 First Home Owner Grant

For transactions that begin between 1 July 2026 and 30 June 2027, first home buyers who buy or build a new home in Tasmania may be eligible for up to $20,000. A new home is one that has never been lived in or sold as a residence — including homes bought off the plan and house and land packages. Building conditions apply to the higher grant amount, and you need to live in the home for at least six months.

Add the federal schemes

  • 5% Deposit Scheme — 5% deposit and no lenders mortgage insurance for homes up to $700,000 in Hobart and regional centres, and $550,000 elsewhere in Tasmania.
  • Help to Buy — the government contributes up to 40% of the price of a new home.
